Best time to visit Ladakh — a month-by-month guide

Ladakh runs on altitude, weather windows, and permit rules. Most travellers land in Leh (3,500 m) and need 24-48 hours to acclimatise — this is non-negotiable, no matter your fitness level. From May to early October the roads to Nubra, Pangong, and Turtuk are typically open; June through August is peak, with July offering the most stable weather.
By September, tourist crowds thin, prices ease, and light softens for photography. October brings crisp mornings and the last comfortable window before the passes close. Winter (December-February) is a different Ladakh entirely — frozen rivers, monastery festivals, and near-empty guest houses for travellers who welcome sub-zero nights.
Whatever month you choose, we plan rest days into your itinerary, pre-arrange inner-line permits, and keep buffer days for flight delays. Ask us for a custom Ladakh outline and we'll match it to your fitness, interests, and time in hand.
